iF Product Design Awards 2009 for NEC NP installation projectors series and MultiSync® LCD EA series

Munich, 09 February 2009 – An impressive two of NEC Display Solutions’ product series have been awarded with the renowned iF Product Design Awards for 2009. Both the NEC MultiSync® EA261WM LCD and the NEC NP3151W installation projector received these highly coveted awards for design excellence within the “05 Computer“ category. The projector has been specially developed for making presentations in large conference rooms or at the point-of-sale (POS) as well as for digital signage applications, whilst the LCD display is particularly suited for the semi-professional SMB and corporate business sectors. In winning the prize NEC’s NP projector series is successfully represented once again and appears alongside the innovative and only recently introduced NEC MultiSync® EA series.

For more than 50 years an international jury of experts has annually awarded iF certificates across various product categories, to indicate particular quality of design and development, choice of materials, environmental sustainability, functionality, degree of innovation, and ergonomics, to name just a few of the evaluation criteria.  With 2,808 submitted products from 39 countries, the members of the jury have made 802 awards this year in a contest which is considered one of the oldest and best known design competitions in the world. The iF certificate is valid over the complete life cycle of the product. With its long tradition and evaluation by an international committee of design experts, this prestigious award enjoys particular respect from product manufacturers and designers.

The NEC MultiSync® EA series has been developed for deployment in semi-professional applications within the SMB and corporate business sectors, and combines outstanding display quality and environmental sustainability with an excellent cost-performance ratio. Particularly suited for office and multimedia applications, the NEC MultiSync® EA261WM LCD display is also ideal for document management through to CAD/CAM applications. The LCD displays of this series combine outstanding ergonomic capabilities such as, for example, height adjustability, with first-class technical performance. Clear yet soft lines alongside discreet positioning of the loudspeakers and control buttons all add to the graceful design of the device. As one of only a few monitors on the market, the EA261WM has also been awarded with EPEAT Gold certification. This once again underlines NEC Display Solutions‘ commitment to the ever better environmental sustainability of its products.

NEC Display Solutions has designed its NP installation projector series for presentations within large conference rooms, auditoriums, at the point-of-sale (POS), or at events and shows. Distinguished by their soft lines and ergonomic design alongside their modern look, the projectors also offer outstanding technical features. With the variety of their connectors, practical security functions and outstanding picture quality, the NEC NP series offers projection to the highest possible standards, whether used within companies, in higher-education institutes, or integrated within presentation systems. The prize was awarded precisely due to the successful combination of functional variety with contemporary design, and proves that it’s possible to pack high technical capability within a particularly elegant overall product.

“The trick is to particularly concentrate on those functions relating to the essential interaction between user and product, person and machine“, explains Ralph Wiegman, iF Managing Director, when describing the principles of successful design. “This is indeed our particular intention, and underpins our endeavours as a developer and manufacturer to combine outstanding functionality with intelligent design“, affirms Clemens von Braunmühl, Product Management & Solutions EMEA Manager for NEC Display Solutions. “We feel that the renewed award of the iF Product Design Awards once again fully justifies our approach.”

Awarding of prizes will again take place on 3rd March this year, on the first day of CeBIT at the Hanover Exhibition Centre. During the opening ceremony the 50 iF gold awards for 2009 will be presented at the same time as the 802 award winners.
